Our recommendation: 30–50 Mbps

We recommend a minimum internet speed of 30–50 Mbps for Infinity TV. Most NBN plans in Australia and fibre plans in New Zealand at this level or above suit a household that watches on one TV.

Things that affect your experience

  • Evening speeds. Internet is busiest in the evening, which is also when families watch. Check your plan's typical evening speed, not just the maximum.
  • Other people online. Video calls, gaming, downloads and other TVs streaming at the same time all share your connection.
  • Wi-Fi near the TV. Walls and distance weaken Wi-Fi. A network cable from the router to the box is the steadiest option; a mesh Wi-Fi system can also help.
  • Your router. An old router can slow things down even on a fast plan.

How to check your speed

  1. Stand near the TV with your phone connected to the same Wi-Fi.
  2. Open a speed test website or app and run the test.
  3. Try again in the evening, around 7–9pm, when families usually watch.

If your speed near the TV is well below 30 Mbps, try a cable to the router, move the router closer, or talk to your internet provider. See our troubleshooting tips for more.

Internet speed FAQ

What internet speed do I need for Infinity TV?

We recommend a minimum of 30–50 Mbps.

Is Wi-Fi OK, or do I need a cable?

Wi-Fi works if the signal near the TV is good. A network cable from the router to the box is the steadiest option.

Why does it matter what time I test?

Internet is busiest in the evening, so testing around 7–9pm shows the speed you'll actually get when watching.
