Why old TV boxes stop working

A TV box is only half the story. The box is the hardware; the channels come from a service behind it. When either side gives up, the screen goes blank. These are the most common reasons:

  • The service behind the box has ended. If the subscription runs out, or the seller stops running the service, the box has nothing to show, even though it still switches on.
  • The seller can't be reached. Some boxes are sold with no clear renewal price or support contact. When something goes wrong, there's no one to ask.
  • The software is out of date. Older general-purpose boxes stop getting updates, and the apps they rely on stop opening.
  • Ageing hardware. After a few years, boxes can run hot, slow down, or have a tired power adapter or remote.
  • Your internet or TV changed. A new modem, a new Wi-Fi name or a new TV can stop an old box from connecting until it's set up again.

Quick checks before you switch

  1. Switch the box and your modem off at the wall, wait 30 seconds, and switch them back on.
  2. Check your TV is on the right HDMI input (press Input or Source on the TV remote).
  3. Make sure the box is connected to your current Wi-Fi, or plug in a network cable from the modem.
  4. Check your internet speed near the TV. We recommend 30–50 Mbps: see what internet speed you need.

If the box still shows no channels, and the service has ended or you can't reach the seller, it's usually time for a fresh start.

What to do with the old box

Unplug it and keep the HDMI cable if it's in good shape. When you're ready to get rid of the box, take it to an e-waste drop-off point near you rather than putting it in the household bin.

Switching from an old box: FAQ

Why did my Indian TV box stop working?

The most common reasons are that the service behind the box has ended, the seller can no longer be reached, the software is out of date, the hardware is ageing, or your internet or TV has changed. Restart the box and modem and check the HDMI input first.

Can I use my old box with Infinity TV?

No. Infinity TV comes with its own box. Unplug the old one and plug the Infinity TV box into the same HDMI port on your TV.

Do I need a new TV?

No. Infinity TV works with any TV that has a free HDMI port, smart or not.

Can I try Infinity TV before I switch?

Yes. Fill in the free trial form on our website and our team will set you up, or book a free demo on WhatsApp.

How much does it cost to switch?

AUD $380 for the Infinity TV box and 24 months of service, then AUD $180 for each 12-month renewal. New Zealand customers pay the same, charged in AUD.

Will my parents manage the new box?

Yes. The remote is simple, the menu is easy and there are no passwords to remember, so elders can switch on and find their channel on their own.
